  1. Short:    Restore backups made with PC-TOOLS SCSI (PC)

  8. This program can restore backups made with PC-tools on a PC onto a SCSI-tape.
  9.

  11. The structure of a PC-tools backup is split into three parts:
  12.  
  13.  
  14. 1 - a backup-header, which is not used by this program.
  15.  
  16. 2 - the backup-body, the actual backup-data.
  17.  
  18. 3 - the backup-index, an index file which contains information about the files
  19.  
  20.  
  21. this program requires these three parts in file-format, you can do this by
  22. using the 'Better Than Nothing' TAPE-handler by Bob Rethemeyer. Read his
  23. instructions how to use the handler.

  29. the usage of the program is as follows:

  31. restore_pctools <INDEX-NAME>,<MAIN-NAME>,<POSNAME>
  32.  
  33. where:
  34.  
  35. INDEX-NAME = the name of the backup-index mentioned above.
  36. MAIN-NAME  = the name of the backup-body mentioned above.
  37. POSNAME    = the name of a file where the last position that was restored
  38.              will be kept.

  40. NOTE : the restoration of the backup will be done in the current directory.

  43. example: you've copied the backup-body  to dh0:test/backup
  44.          you've copied the backup-index to dh0:test/index
  45.          you wish to use a pos-file called dh0:test/pos
  46.          you wish to restore all to dh0:test

  49. then the commandline would look like this : (cd dh0:test)

  51. restore_pctools index,backup,pos

  55. After this the program will restore the complete backup. After 25 files have
  56. been restored, you will be notified and given the oppertunety to either con-
  57. tinue the restore or quit the restore. if you quit, you can continue later
  58. because the last position is stored in the pos-file.
